Students of Russian schools continue to participate in environmental online lessons on the careful attitude to the Baikal seal, which highlighted the first results of the expedition for tagging the seal. One month has passed since the launch of the lesson on the educational platform Stepik.
We receive a lot of positive feedback and constructive suggestions for improving the format of the lessons from teachers, as well as important data on the number of lessons, the average age of students and the regions involved:
- Within a month from the start of the online lesson, the lesson was watched by more than 32 thousand children in 16 regions of Russia: Arkhangelsk region, Volgograd region, Transbaikal region, Irkutsk region, Kamchatka region, Krasnoyarsk region, Moscow region, Novosibirsk region, Perm region, the Republic of Tatarstan, Khabarovsk region, Omsk region, Nizhniy Novgorod region, Chelyabinsk region, the Chuvash Republic, Sverdlovsk region;
- Average age of pupils: 5 — 18 years;
- Online lessons were held in various educational institutions: kindergartens, schools, boarding schools, professional colleges of natural sciences, as well as in the framework of environmental camps and competitions.
It is noteworthy that in many schools there are environmental initiative groups created by the teachers themselves, which organize eco-lessons and practical classes for students.
Anna Nikolaevna Gavrilova, Head of the Ecological Detachment of school No. 31″, Khimki, Moscow region, gives her impression of the lesson about the Baikal seal:
“Many thanks for the material provided. It’s nice to know that real work is being done to protect unique animals. It is especially valuable that this work can be demonstrated to children!”.
The Lake Baikal Foundation plans to create new lessons and teaching materials for children and adults on topical environmental topics, which are reflected in the Foundation’s projects.
The online lesson is a part of the Lake Baikal Foundation’s «The Baikal Seal Year» project, supported by the Presidential Grants Foundation.
