On April 20, 2017 the Baikal Initiative contest aimed at identifying and supporting young scientists’ technological and applied research projects will be launched. Lake Baikal Foundation has allocated one million rubles to sponsor bright/innovative solutions both in environmental protection of the lake and in broadening the scope of applied research relevant for Lake Baikal due to its unique endemic environment. Future participants of the Baikal Initiative contest will have to prove to the ‘public expertise’ that their projects are relevant and necessary: the projects that will raise 20% of their budget through crowd funding, sponsors and other channels of social support, will be provided with the Foundation’s support. 80% of successful projects’ budget will be covered by the grants provided by the Lake Baikal Foundation.
The Baikal Initiative will be the successor of the Year of Ecology: the Lake Baikal Foundation’s grants will help to implement the projects submitted in 2018. Contest rules and regulations have been published. The period when the applications for the participation are accepted was prolonged until August 15, 2017. Application form regulations can be found in the following document – Application form. Applications estimation was carried out in accordance with the set of rules for Experts board – Applications estimation procedure. The winners were announced on October, 25, 2017.
