Scientific Advisor of the V.B. Sochava Institute of Geography of the SB RAS. Chairman of the Academic Council of the Institute, Chairman of the Dissertation Council, Chief Editor of the magazine \u00abGeography and Natural Resources\u00bb, a member of the editorial board of the journal \u00abIce and Snow\u00bb. Scientific leader and responsible executive of integration projects of the SB RAS, Department of Earth Sciences, the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, RFBR projects, contractual works. Deputy Chairman of the Irkutsk Branch of the Russian Geographical Society, member of the Scientific Council bureau of the Russian Geography Society.<\/p>\n
He was awarded with Honorary Certificate of RAS Presidium, Honorary Certificate of Siberian branch of RAS, Sign of Public Merit by the governor of Irkutsk.<\/p>\n
He graduated from Geographical faculty of Irkutsk State University. After graduation Plusnin worked at Research Council of the University as a laboratory assistant, later as an engineer and as a fellow. Since 1977 he has been working at V.B. Sochawa Institute of Siberian branch of RAS. In 1978-1982 he was doing a post-graduate course at the Institute. He defended his Ph.D. thesis \u00abGolts Landscapes of Stanovoy Highlands\u00bb in 1983 and his doctorate thesis \u00abLandscape Analysis of Mountain Areas\u00bb (as in the case of the Baikal region) in 2000. In 2003 he was elected as a deputy director of the Institute and in 2010 became a director. In 2009 he obtained a degree of professor.<\/p>\n
Victor Plusnin\u2019s area of scientific interest lies within mountain landscape study, thematical mapping, landscape design, eco-geology, exogenous process of bulge forming, aerospace methods of research. He worked out methods of defining ecological zones, principles of ecological zoning, techniques for digital thematical mapping and creating geographical information system of the Baikal region. Victor takes part in thematical and atlas charting of Siberia. Now he directs the work on solution of a fundamental problem \u2013 reaction of mountain landscapes to global climate change.<\/p>\n
He has more than 280 scientific publications, including 5 monographs, 2 study guides, articles in peer-reviewed journal, maps. He takes part in preparation of academic staff.<\/p>\n
1995-1998 he taught at Irkutsk State University, 1998-2010 \u2013 at National Research Technical University, 2011-2014 \u2013 at Irkutsk State Pedagogical Institute and now he is a professor at Irkutsk State University. He is a scientific adviser for students and two post-graduate students. Four of his students defended their Ph.D. theses.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
