{"id":10864,"date":"2023-04-10T15:58:59","date_gmt":"2023-04-10T12:58:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/baikalfoundation.ru\/?p=10864"},"modified":"2023-04-10T15:59:03","modified_gmt":"2023-04-10T12:59:03","slug":"the-foundation-brought-together-students-from-russia-and-tanzania-at-a-round-table","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/baikalfoundation.ru\/en\/the-foundation-brought-together-students-from-russia-and-tanzania-at-a-round-table\/","title":{"rendered":"The Foundation brought together students from Russia and Tanzania at a round table"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On February 22 students from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ranepa.ru\/en\/\">RANEPA<\/a> (Moscow) and students from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sua.ac.tz\/\">Sokoine University of Agriculture<\/a> (Morogoro, Tanzania) met online to present to each other the results of their research on the management of Lake Baikal and Lake Victoria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lake Baikal<\/strong> has been a UNESCO Natural World Heritage site since 1996. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lake Victoria<\/strong> adjoins the border of the Serengeti National Park, a UNESCO Natural World Heritage site since 1981.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite their uniqueness, each of the lakes is being affected by anthropogenic impact. During the online meeting students learned about the main business activities on the lakes, current threats and pollution as well as suggestions for sustainable management of the areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides students, the webinar was attended by professionals, who gave their overview of the subjects and feedback to students\u2019 work:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Giuseppe Musumeci \u2013 head of the UNESCO Chair in Interreligious and Intercultural Communication at St. Andrew&#8217;s College (Mumbai, India);<\/li><li>Makarius Lalika \u2013 head of the UNESCO Chair in Environmental Hydrology and Transboundary Water Management at Sokoine Agricultural University (Morogoro, Tanzania);<\/li><li>Alexandre Martusevich \u2013 freelance senior researcher at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (Laxenburg, Austria).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lake Baikal Foundation hosted this webinar and was the scientific coordinator of the students\u2019 research.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On February 22 students from RANEPA (Moscow) and students from Sokoine University of Agriculture (Morogoro, Tanzania) met online to present to each other the results of their research on the management of Lake Baikal and Lake Victoria.
