{"id":5262,"date":"2020-04-02T13:20:05","date_gmt":"2020-04-02T10:20:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/baikalfoundation.ru\/?p=5262"},"modified":"2020-04-28T20:28:13","modified_gmt":"2020-04-28T17:28:13","slug":"lake-baikal-foundation-and-asi-keep-up-with-the-waste-problem-in-spnas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/baikalfoundation.ru\/en\/lake-baikal-foundation-and-asi-keep-up-with-the-waste-problem-in-spnas\/","title":{"rendered":"Lake Baikal Foundation and ASI keep up with the waste problem in SPNAs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>April 1, 2020 Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI) has published the survey of 140 federal special natural protected areas (SPNAs) conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation and Lake Baikal Foundation. The survey is aimed at revealing the reasons for illegal dampening in the SPNAs; finding out how national parks and reserves deal with the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The survey has revealed the following general problems in sustainable waste management in the protected areas (PAs):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>23 PAs (16,4%) lack infrastructure for waste storage and recycling within 200 km from their borders;<\/li><li>23 PAs (16,4%) have not signed a contract with the regional operator of communal waste or other company for waste transportation for various reasons: the regional operator does not work in the area or the PAs are remote and lack approach roads;<\/li><li>44 PAs (31,4%) lack the waste management system based on waste type division;<\/li><li>the regional operator does not transport waste, including separately collected recyclables, in 28 PAs (20%);<\/li><li>90,7%&nbsp;ofPAsdonothavewastebalers. 64,3%&nbsp;donotseparatewaste;<\/li><li>35 PAs (25%) do not implement environmental education programs. 6 of them indicated that such programs were being elaborated and would be implemented this year.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Generally, 88 PAs (62,9%) indicated the existing problems in waste transportation. The survey results should become the base for road maps on resolution of the problems at federal and regional levels.
