{"id":8322,"date":"2021-09-28T19:23:06","date_gmt":"2021-09-28T16:23:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/baikalfoundation.ru\/?p=8322"},"modified":"2021-11-03T19:29:35","modified_gmt":"2021-11-03T16:29:35","slug":"the-next-stage-baikal-without-nets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/baikalfoundation.ru\/en\/the-next-stage-baikal-without-nets\/","title":{"rendered":"The next stage of the Baikal Without Nets project has been completed"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>From September 14 to 18, within the framework of the <a href=\"https:\/\/baikalfoundation.ru\/en\/our-work\/water-conservation\/the-baikal-without-fishnets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Baikal Without Nets <\/a>project, another expedition took place, covering the area from Listvyanka to Big Cats. The expedition passed through the places of the greatest littering of the lake with sunken fishing nets, which were identified as part of the July expedition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There were 2 divers, 3 employees of the IO (Institute of Oceanology) RAS (hydrochemists and hydrobiologists) and members of the public on board the vessel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main part of the dives was performed on the canyon in the area of Listvyanka village, Bolshye Koty village, in the area of Chernaya Padi, on Cape Tolstoy and Cape Sredny. During the work, 19 nets with a total weight of 230 kg were lifted, in semi-dry weight slightly more than 100 kg (without stones, sponges and entangled animals). The raised networks will be transferred to the local regional waste management operator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Water samples were taken, which were analyzed for oxygen, Ph and nitrogen. The research will be continued in the Moscow laboratory of the IO RAS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to water samples, fouling on nets was also analyzed, and the species composition of algae was studied. This is of scientific interest from the point of view of studying the processes of destruction of plastic, namely plastic fishing nets, under water.
