On March 21, at the initiative of the United Nations, the International Day of Forests is celebrated, which is designed to raise awareness about the role of forests for both humans and nature. On this day, we want to draw attention to the conservation and protection of forests in the Baikal Natural Territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Forests are an indispensable element of the Baikal ecosystem. They provide conditions for the existence of most land-based endemic and rare species of flora and fauna and partially prevent water pollution. One way or another, forests have always been associated with certain areas of our activity, whether it is the conservation of biodiversity and water resources or sustainable tourism. Now, in order to ensure a systematic approach to the preservation of Baikal nature, we are announcing a program for the conservation of forests as part of the new activity area of the Foundation aimed at combatting climate change and its consequences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Foundation\u2019s program is a response to the existing risks that the forests of the Baikal region have to face. The program\u2019s activities are aimed at reducing anthropogenic pressure on forest ecosystems and promoting their restoration, thereby contributing to slowing down climate change and mitigating its effects.
