On November 11, 2021, the annual Russian Award ceremony called Change Management. Visionaries took place in Moscow. The Award recognizing the best sustainable impact practices in the sphere economy, environment and society was held by the Project +1 for the fourth time. The Trash Free National Parks program, implemented by Lake Baikal Foundation since 2019 in the Baikal Natural Area, took second place in the Ecology. NGOs nomination.
In addition to the projects of non-profit organizations, the jury of the Award, consisting of experts in the field of sustainable development, CSR, ESG transformation, also evaluated the initiatives of business companies, government agencies and Russian media. In total, more than 120 applications were submitted for the Award from representatives of all categories of participants. The winning initiatives were the projects in the field of introduction of separate waste collection, recycling of materials, support for socially vulnerable groups of the population, etc., which, according to the jury members, to the greatest extent met the criteria of efficiency, integration into the organization’s strategy, innovation and replication opportunities to solve acute problems in the field of sustainable development.
The Trash Free National Parks program has been implemented by Lake Baikal Foundation for 3 years in order to solve the problem of littering in specially protected natural areas. By creating a simple and convenient infrastructure for separate waste collection in national parks on Lake Baikal in combination with thematic ecoeducational events for the local population, the Foundation implements a systematic approach to solve this problem, which is acute for many natural territories. To increase the scale of the positive impact of the program, starting in 2021, the Foundation has been scaling up the practices of sustainable waste management, thereby helping to spread the principles of responsible tourism among a wide audience.
The team of Lake Baikal Foundation thanks the jury for the high appreciation of the Trash Free National Parks program and the Project +1 for organizing the Change Management. Visionaries Award.
