Asian-Pacific Bank will support the Foundation’s initiatives aimed at supporting the entrepreneurial community of the Baikal region in the study and implementation of sustainable development principles.
Business is the backbone of the economy and at the same time a pool of resources for achieving the well-being of society and for preserving the environment. In addition to economic tasks, entrepreneurs perform a number of important social functions: they provide jobs for residents of settlements, including those in remote areas while simultaneously being cultural heritage ambassadors and introducing guests of the region to the traditions of social interaction and environmental behavior.
Many small and medium-sized enterprises on Lake Baikal operate in the service sector, including trade, tourism, and the entertainment industry. The more entrepreneurs implement the principles of social and environmental responsibility in their activities, the better the conditions for living in the Baikal region settlements and for preserving the ecosystems will be.
As part of a joint initiative, APB and Lake Baikal Foundation intend to support the process of greening business on Lake Baikal based on the targets of the UN Sustainable Development Goals until 2030 (SDGs) at the local level: Clean water; Clean energy; Responsible consumption and production; Sustainable cities; Conservation of terrestrial ecosystems; Partnership for the SDGs.
