Anastasia Tsvetkova, CEO at the Lake Baikal Foundation, took part in the discussion section of the congress «Lake Baikal: Great Lake of the Great Country» as part of one of the Russian strategic development direction – «ecology». The sessions’ goal was to draw the participants’ attention to regulatory and legal conflicts in the field of water quality regulation in Lake Baikal and call for recommendations on their elimination. The session participants also discussed the world experience in the fight against the Eutrophication of the largest reservoirs, examples of successful projects for the Great Lakes.
The moderator of the session was Zorigto Namsaraev from Kurchatov Institute. Among the speakers were also Endon Garmayev, the director of the Baikal Institute of Nature Management of the SB RAS, Elena Gogina, the vice-rector of the Russian Municipal University, Denis Ershov, the head of the Analytical Center under the Government of the Russian Federation, Marina Kevbrina, Mosvodokanal, Mikhail Pukemo, the director of the group «Alta-groups», Evgeny Pupyrev, president of the Interregional project union, chairman of the Expert and technological council at the Russian Association of Water Supply and Sanitation.
Meantime proposals are being prepared for the resolution on the results of the first All-Russian Water Congress «Water Resources of Russia for Ensuring Sustainable Development of the Country, Ecological Safety and Public Health». The Lake Baikal Foundation for Environmental Applications and Research will forward its recommendations on improving the lake monitoring system to the Congress Organizing Committee.
