15 June 2020 Zabaikalsky National Park re-opened recycling points in the framework of the Trash Free National Parks project implemented by Lake Baikal Foundation in cooperation with the FSBI «Zapovednoe Podlemorye» supported by the Presidential Grants Foundation and the charitable foundation of the Siberian Wellness Corporation «The World Around You».
Taking into account the results of 2019 pilot launch we reconsidered the range of acceptable recyclables, improved the points’ appearance, created additional information materials for tourists: leaflets printed on both sides of recycled paper. This year visitors will continue to receive green coupons: 1 bag of collected recyclables can be exchanged for 1 coupon which in turn can be exchanged for free services of the national park.
It is important to note that during the whole summer season a group of volunteers – activists of the International Association of Environmental Organizations and Movements «We Solve Together» – will work with visitors. Thanks to large experience in organization of environmental events and other activities in the Republic of Buryatia the volunteers will give detailed consultations to visitors and help them to separate garbage.
The visitors should plan ahead considering the renewed regulations on responsible tourism in the area, to avoid bringing potential garbage and to enjoy their stay on the Baikal shore.
It is necessary to remember that the ecotourism rules imply not only to national parks and reserves, but also to other types of natural areas where people interact with environment.
