In 2020 Lake Baikal Foundation keeps working on effective waste management in the protected natural areas. While we were implementing the pilot Trash Free National Parks and working out the Standard on Sustainable Waste Management in the PAs with the Agency of Strategic Initiatives we gained practical experience of cooperation with the PAs in separate waste collection, involved a number of environmentalists, accumulated a lot of applied data and expertise.
Currently, the Foundation is seeking for scaling up the obtained experience in the Baikal Natural Area. The first national park which we have taken up in this cooperation is the Chikoy national park situated in the south-west of the Zabaikalsky region within the Baikal Natural Area, in the Krasnochikoy district, on the Khentei-Daur Highlands at the upstream of the Chikoy river.
The Chikoy National Park was established quite recently, in 2014, although the necessity of its establishment was firstly brought up back in 1948. Since the beginning of its work the park administration aspires to implement separate waste collection, create new ecotrails and attract more eco-friendly tourists to the natural area.
In 2020 Lake Baikal Foundation continues the Trash Free National Park program in the Zabaikalsky national park, we are open to cooperation and ready to share experience and expertise.
