Anastasia Tsvetkova, CEO at the Lake Baikal Foundation, held a speech at the panel discussion on the environment along with representatives of the relevant ministries of the North Caucasus Federal District Republics and environmental NPOs at the 4th North Caucasus Civil Forum «Arkhyz XXI».
Anastasia Tsvetkova’s report at the first business meeting of the Forum emphasized the key features of the Lake Baikal Foundation work and demonstrated good examples of the NPOs involvement in protecting the ecology of the natural site. During the report, the following aspects were noted:
A non-profit organization can be a center of expertise and, accordingly, a channel between the state and business for solving environmental problems;
Drawing up an economic plan for the development of the territories, it is necessary to address to the bearers of versatile knowledge, and not forget about the scientists-ecologists who are able to predict the consequences of one or another solution that is advantageous at first glance. This applies, in particular, to the industrial development of territories, the development of the mass tourism segment;
Baikal is a unique example of a natural object that is promising in terms of investment in science. Baikal is the only lake unexplored by 2/3. It stores «large data». Mineral water, in turn, is a unique example for investments, for example, in medical tourism.
In addition, during the panel discussion on ecology, the Lake Baikal Foundation CEO answered in detail the question: what should to be done to prioritize regional development priorities for investment projects?
The Forum was held on July 12-14, 2017 supported by the Karachaevo-Cherkessia Head Rashid Temrezov and the government of Karachay-Cherkessia. It was attended by about 250 representatives of public authorities, the media, NPOs and expert communities.
