On November 10, Lake Baikal Foundation completed accepting applications from small and medium-sized businesses of the Baikal region to participate in a grant environmental contest organized with the support of Asian Pacific Bank.
The organizers of the contest received 32 applications from the Irkutsk region and the Republic of Buryatia. The most popular direction among the participants was the nomination «Environmental innovation in business»: it will consider projects aimed at introducing technologies for the rational use of resources and reducing the burden on the environment. For example, the introduction of sustainable management of consumer waste, including its processing; installation of energy- and water-saving equipment; transition to alternative energy sources.
The second nomination – «Green Corporate Culture» – encompasses the projects submitted to involve employees and clients of companies in eco-educational programs and events. The direction «Sustainable human settlements» is not inferior in terms of the number of applications implying the creation of public infrastructure benefits using the principles of rational nature management and resource conservation.
An independent expert jury has already started evaluating the projects. Up to five experts evaluate the content, implementation plan and sustainability of each of them. The maximum number of points that one application can receive from one expert is 30. The arithmetic mean of the cumulative points is the overall assessment of the project, which the organizers indicate in the rating table. The winners will be the applications with the highest number of points in the rating. The results of the contest will be announced by December 6.
