This spring the Irkutsk Regional Environmental Non-Governmental Organization «Glubina Otvetstvennosti» (IREOO «Depth of Responsibility») addressed the Lake Baikal Foundation with an initiative to jointly implement the «Baikal Without Fishnets» project. The aim of the project is to study the lake for sunken fishing nets, their impact on the Baikal ecosystem, and, if possible, to clean up the lake from them. Employees of specialized institutes will take part in the expedition and the samples obtained will be analyzed in laboratories. Sharing the idea of the project and having read the letters of support in favor of the project from the Directorate of the Baikal National Park and the Baikal Interregional Environmental Prosecutor’s Office, the Foundation decided to support the project.
Thus, the Foundation’s employees submitted an application for a grant competition for non-profit organizations «Support Will Come», held jointly by Tinkoff Bank and the Foundation «Help Needed» to partially cover the costs of this project. Yesterday it was announced that the «Baikal Without Fishnets» project was highly appreciated by the expert jury ofthe Foundation «Help Needed» and submitted to a public vote, which will last until June 16.
