From the 14th to the 23rd of March, the project team on the development of the educational tourism together with the colleagues from the National Park Narochansky participated in the seminar on usage of GIS.
During practical seminars, the team of the project-winner of the Baikal Initiative Сontest from «Zapovednoe Podlemorye» dived deep into advantages of GIS implementation. The staff from the Belorussian National Park Narochansky together with specialists in GIS shared knowledge on perspectives of using GIS platforms on the specially protected national areas (SPNAs). The representatives of two national parks and relevant experts discussed, how database systems might be useful for the development of management at the SPNAs. Also, this collaborative team made an application for field data collected on waste management, as well as for the development of tourism and science.
In the foreseeable future, the staff from the scientific department of the Zabaikalsky National Park plan not only to use collected data, but also to update information on flora and fauna. Already this year, «Zapovednoe Podlemorye» is going to launch pilot projects and put acquired knowledge from the Belorussian colleagues into practice.
Implementation of the Educational tourism as a tool for nature complex conservation under conditions of pyrogenic and anthropogenic load project became possible thanks to the Baikal Initiative Contest, organized by Lake Baikal Foundation. The first part of the project – scientific research expedition on the Svyatoy Nos peninsula — has been successfully implemented. Seminars held this year are not only the second part of this project, but also substantial contribution to the SDG №17 «Partnerships for the Goals». We always encourage such initiatives on the cooperation of the SPNAs!
