On the 18th of January practical seminar took place as a closing part of the project «Educational tourism as a tool for nature complex conservation under conditions of pyrogenic and anthropogenic load» in the Zabaikalsky National Park. The project is related to the Baikal Initiative Contest, supported by Lake Baikal Foundation. The topic of the seminar was GIS technologies for organisation of nature conservation, recreational and educational activities in the specially protected natural areas.
Team of the Federal State Budgetary Institution «Zapovednoe Podlemorye» tourism, science and conservation departments, scientists from the V.B. Sochava Institute of Geography SB RAS, who executed the project, and consultants from the Republic of Belarus, National Academy of Sciences Geoinformation Systems and National Park Narochansky joined in the event. The participants exchanged their experience of using mobile applications such as QField and FieldMap for data collection with their following systematization in the product programmes QGIS and ArcGIS. The reports on work with these apps were presented by Oleg Zheleznyi («Zapovednoe Podlemorye) and Aleksei Novikov (National Park Narochansky). Also, Aleksei showed the opportunities of ArcGIS and Mapbox for demonstration on the websites of the virtual and interactive maps and tours, development of so-called story maps in the territory of the national park.
At the end, the scientists discussed further implementation of the mobile GIS apps, work with them by the team from «Zapovednoe Podlemorye» in the coming summer season and outlined plan for collaborative research to develop and implement geoinformation system in the national park and nature reserve.
